Montacute | Somerset, UK
This was such a gorgeous autumnal wedding in Somerset, with perfect sunny weather from start to finish. As someone who’s always loved the rich seasonal colours which autumn brings, this wedding really was so lovely to capture! From the auburn leaves all around and the soft autumnal light, it’s very exciting to feature this celebration – read on for the gallery…
A Church Ceremony in Montacute – Documentary Wedding Photographer Somerset
The ceremony took place in a traditional church just a short walk away from the reception venue. As a documentary wedding photographer, it’s always special having the slightly longer duration of church weddings to capture not only the traditional elements but also the smaller, unposed moments which work together to tell the story of the day as a whole. Following the ceremony, the confetti shot took place outside in the soft autumnal sunshine – there was definitely no shortage of confetti, as you’ll see in the gallery below!

Somerset Wedding Reception at the Abbey Grounds
After the ceremony, everyone moved to the abbey, for the outdoor reception. As a wedding photographer in the UK, it’s always lovely to capture outdoor marquee receptions, especially when they’re combined with the most beautiful historic backdrop!

While I often photograph weddings in Devon and Somerset as a South West wedding photographer, I do very much enjoy travelling around for weddings and I’m often up in the Cotswolds and beyond to photograph celebrations. If you’re planning a celebration in the UK or further afield and my approach resonates with you then please do get in touch via my website or on Instagram, I’d love to hear from you!
Client love
“Having never had an occasion to use a photographer, I was nervous as to what it would involve and was concerned about feeling self conscious. Laura completely allayed these worries, she was so helpful and on the day she captured moments I didn’t even know she was there for! We are so happy with the final photos. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough!”
S & T
Golden Autumn Light for the evening – wedding photographer Somerset
Following a few couple photos in the golden light of the early evening, we moved inside to the marquee for speeches. Adorned with many candles and hanging foliage, this was a beautiful backdrop for the evening. As a UK and destination wedding photographer with a documentary style, it’s always fun to capture speeches and the emotions which they bring. Never posed or scripted, my approach as a wedding photographer in Somerset and beyond will always be centred around capturing the joy of the day as it unfolds.

Evening Celebrations and a Live Band – documentary wedding photographer Somerset
As evening arrived, a live band kicked things off and guests released confetti canons during the first dance which was such a fun addition to it all! See more just below…

A few words on
Getting married in Devon
Although I grew up in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling over to see my close family in Devon for much of my life and so have always had a bit of a foot in both countries. Admittedly, my opinion may be slightly skewed because I love a country house wedding venue and Devon is full of these (Pynes House and Huntsham Court are some of my all-time favourites to mention a few), but the allure of Devon also lies in its beautiful landscapes.
From its sweeping hills to the dramatic red rock Jurassic coast, there’s always been something pretty special about this part of the world. Along both the North and South Coasts, Devon also has some unique coastal wedding venues – The Grain Store near Torquay in Kingsbridge is one of my favourites and I recently did an incredible Devon summertime wedding there, where the ceremony took place right by the sea. For those who love the idea of a celebration in a national park, a Dartmoor wedding amongst its expansive moorlands and untouched forests can be absolutely beautiful too. Plus, you’ve got Cornwall just next door if you wanted to extend your travels slightly while you’re in this part of the country. All in all, I know I may be biased as a wedding photographer Devon, but Devon has definitely got quite a bit to offer when it comes to getting married in the UK.
