Pynes House | Exeter, Devon

Julie and Michael celebrated their wedding at Pynes House last summer with many happy smiles and a beautiful English-French fusion theme alongside a stunning pastel colour palette. It’s always lovely to photograph weddings at this historic English country house as a Pynes House wedding photographer, and this day working with Tara Statton Photography was no exception. The outdoor reception on the rose terrace was beautiful, and the family’s traditional French dance, complete with costumes, was so much fun to capture. To top it off, the guests came together for an evening rendition of La Vie en Rose, making the day even more memorable. Pynes House provided the perfect backdrop for it all. See the gallery just below!

The preparations at Pynes house wedding venue in Devon

The morning preparations for the day unfolded across two floors at Pynes House. As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing weddings at many lovely venues around the world, but Pynes house will always be memorable for its glorious light and airy rooms and large windows – very much a photographer’s dream!

A summer wedding with a civil ceremony in the drawing room

With the aisle framed by eye-catching floral and statement urns, set against the backdrop of the ornate Drawing Room, this was a lovely ceremony to capture. For more of my approach as a documentary style Wedding Photographer, click here.

Following the civil ceremony in the Drawing Room, we headed outside for the confetti shot, and then around to the Rose Gardens for the drinks’ reception and canapés by the lovely Pickle Shack. While I document celebrations throught the year as a wedding photographer Devon, there will forever be something special about a summer wedding at an English country house, with the gardens all in bloom. The rest of the day was followed with much laughter and celebration, with French wedding traditions woven through the afternoon too. From the UK to France, India and New Zealand, the novelty of capturing the wedding traditions of different cultures around the world will never quite wear off. Pynes House wedding venue, in Devon

A luxury wedding venue nestled in the Devonshire Hills, this country house wedding venue has always been one of my favourite venues to photograph at, as a Pynes House wedding photographer. A family run wedding venue, the historic house holds much history as a prestigious Georgian country house for high society. Not only has it welcomed Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, but it also has close links with the world of literature and is believed to have been the inspiration for Barton Park in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. See here for more about the history of Pynes House.

Pynes House Wedding Photographer

While I’m based in the beautiful Devon in the South West of the UK, I love the opportunity to travel around the world, capturing wedding celebrations of different cultures and customs. Because for me, that’s always been the focus of photography – to truly and comprehensively capture the moments unfolding before the lens, doing justice to the unique intricacies of our lives. Intricacies which will never be posed or structured, but which instead bring back meaning and memories to cherish for years to come.

A few words on

Getting married in Devon

Although I grew up in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling over to see my close family in Devon for much of my life and so have always had a bit of a foot in both countries. Admittedly, my opinion may be slightly skewed because I love a country house wedding venue and Devon is full of these (Pynes House and Huntsham Court are some of my all-time favourites to mention a few), but the allure of Devon also lies in its beautiful landscapes.

From its sweeping hills to the dramatic red rock Jurassic coast, there’s always been something pretty special about this part of the world. Along both the North and South Coasts, Devon also has some unique coastal wedding venues – The Grain Store near Torquay in Kingsbridge is one of my favourites and I recently did an incredible Devon summertime wedding there, where the ceremony took place right by the sea. For those who love the idea of a celebration in a national park, a Dartmoor wedding amongst its expansive moorlands and untouched forests can be absolutely beautiful too. Plus, you’ve got Cornwall just next door if you wanted to extend your travels slightly while you’re in this part of the country. All in all, I know I may be biased as a wedding photographer Devon, but Devon has definitely got quite a bit to offer when it comes to getting married in the UK.
