Devon engagement shoot at Hope Cove
I’ve been excited to share this glorious Devon engagement shoot captured at the picturesque Hope Cove, just a stone’s throw from Salcombe. As a South West Wedding Photographer, I’m lucky enough to have beautiful beaches and peaceful countryside just on my doorstep.
Having enjoyed the stunning beaches of the South Hams quite a bit during my years at Exeter University, I was excited to hear that Meg and Sim had chosen to have their pre-wedding shoot at Hope Cove, on what the weather had forecast to be a perfect evening. And the weather really did provide everything and more! We had a glorious golden hour down on the beach for this Devon engagement shoot, before heading up to the cliff top for the most incredible sunset (only made better by the perfect clearing we found, overlooking the cove). See the gallery below…

Hope Cove near Salcombe
Nestled in the heart of Devon’s South Hams, Hope Cove is a charming seaside village which offers the ideal backdrop for a Devon engagement shoot. Whether you’re after crystal-clear waters, dramatic clifftop vistas, or a peaceful stroll through a village filled with thatched cottages and coastal charm, this special part of the world ticks many boxes. If you find yourself with a bit more time, you can also take a short trip over to Salcombe, a renowned and pristine seaside town offering scenic coastal walks, sandy coves, and boutique restaurants.

My documentary style wedding photography is all about capturing the essence of the moment, and the joy that surrounds it. It’s for this that I love photographing in beautiful, natural landscapes like Hope Cove, which really bring out all the excitement and joy – after all, it’s hard to beat the fresh sea breeze and open sky of a beach setting! And if you’re interested in more beach related pre-wedding shoots, I’ve got a lovely engagement shoot at a beautiful black sand beach on the blog (see it here), from my work as a destination wedding photographer over in New Zealand.

A few words on
Getting married in Devon
Although I grew up in New Zealand, I’ve been travelling over to see my close family in Devon for much of my life and so have always had a bit of a foot in both countries. Admittedly, my opinion may be slightly skewed because I love a country house wedding venue and Devon is full of these (Pynes House and Huntsham Court are some of my all-time favourites to mention a few), but the allure of Devon also lies in its beautiful landscapes.
From its sweeping hills to the dramatic red rock Jurassic coast, there’s always been something pretty special about this part of the world. Along both the North and South Coasts, Devon also has some unique coastal wedding venues – The Grain Store near Torquay in Kingsbridge is one of my favourites and I recently did an incredible Devon summertime wedding there, where the ceremony took place right by the sea. For those who love the idea of a celebration in a national park, a Dartmoor wedding amongst its expansive moorlands and untouched forests can be absolutely beautiful too. Plus, you’ve got Cornwall just next door if you wanted to extend your travels slightly while you’re in this part of the country. All in all, I know I may be biased as a wedding photographer Devon, but Devon has definitely got quite a bit to offer when it comes to getting married in the UK.
