Wedding Photography in the South West: choosing a South West wedding venue

Wedding Photography in the South West: choosing a South West wedding venue

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting quite a few beautiful South West wedding venues in my time doing wedding photography in the South West. So, from stately homes in Somerset to sea views on the rugged cliffs of Cornwall, I’ve put together 5 reasons to choose a South West wedding venue. Read on for more…

1. Outdoor ceremonies

Granted open air ceremonies aren’t limited to the South west of England alone, however during my time as a South West wedding photographer, I’ve seen quite a few open-air ceremonies and each time they’re pretty special (I’ve got some images of a recent outdoor ceremony at The Grain Store in Devon just below). Plus, the slightly warmer and balmy weather experienced during wedding photographer in the South West lends itself quite perfectly to open air vows, ensuring that you and your guests are able to fully relax and celebrate in the warm English sun during the wedding ceremony. 2. Wedding Photography in the South WEst – Sea Views for Miles

One of the benefits of opting for a Cornwall wedding is that there are so many incredible luxury Cornwall wedding venues with sea views and seclusion. Whether you’re up in the hilltops of the Liskeard at Polurrian on the Lizard, or relaxing with a backdrop of the sea in Carbis Bay near St Ives, there will forever be something special about getting married by the Cornish coastline, overlooking the Atlantic. Devon also boasts the picturesque South Hams, which is gorgeous for weekend getaways and weddings alike. While we’re on the topic of the South Hams, the picturesque town of Salcombe is definitely worth a mention. Boasting a lively scene and unrivalled views of the peaceful estuary (as well as the most beautiful beaches – have a look at Gara Rock beach and the lovely Gara Rock Hotel here if you’re interested), this is a great Devon gem to know about.

3. A Peaceful Break From City Life

Another benefit of traveling down for a Devon wedding or a Cornwall celebration is the seclusion and peace you can find – a true opportunity to take a step back from busy city life, to celebrate with your nearest and dearest. But something that I’ve learned during my time doing wedding photography in the South West is that you’ll also find that amenities are never too far away – you’ve just got Exeter city centre and the historic quayside just a quick drive from Dartmoor wedding venues like Badgers Holt and Bovey Castle, and St Ives is a lovely vibrant spot to visit if you’re down Cornwall way. 4. Country House Weddings

If you’ve seen my Instagram (or looked on a few pages of my website), you’ll quickly see how much I enjoy a country house wedding. As someone who grew up in NZ, (where historic county houses don’t really exist), the novelty hasn’t yet worn off. And what’s not to love – saying your vows or dancing the night away in a house filled with history and beautiful details (and not to mention beautiful gardens) can be quite something. And as a documentary wedding photographer in Devon, I’ve had the privilege of visiting many beautiful venues – from Pynes House to Kingston Estate and Huntsham Court, we’ve got quite the selection down in Devon. Which leads me onto the final section – the incredible choice you’ll have for wedding venues in Devon.

5. Wedding photography in the south west – The multitude of choice of south west wedding venues

Not only do we have some incredible English country houses down in the South West, but we also have some lovely barn wedding venues (The Great Barn in Higher Ashton is one of my favourites) and coastal spots (The Grain Store’s ocean front ceremony spot is pretty spectacular). So regardless of your preferences, you’re likely to find something to your taste down here in the South West of the UK.

As a destination wedding photographer, I’ve travelled around the UK and beyond and seen quite a few glorious wedding venues, but my time in wedding photography in the South West has definitely shown me just how lovely a wedding can be in this part of the country. From open air ceremonies in the sunny Devon to coastal views, country seclusion and country house weddings, you’ve got plenty of options. If you’re considering a South West wedding or something a bit further afield and think that I might be a good fit, please do get in contact, I’d love to hear from you.
